The MC78M12BTG is a 500mA positive voltage regulator 3 pin TO-220 package. This positive voltage regulator is identical to the popular MC7800 series device, except that it is specified for only half the output current. The three-terminal regulator is intended for local, on-card voltage regulation. Internal current limiting, thermal shutdown circuitry and safe-area compensation for the internal pass transistor combine to make device remarkably rugged under most operating conditions. Maximum output current with adequate heatsinking.

- Output voltage of 12V
- Operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C
- No external components required, internal thermal overload protection & high accuracy of ±2%
- Maximum line regulation of 50mV at (TJ = 25°C, 14.5VDC ≤ VI ≤ 30VDC, IO = 200mA)
- Maximum load regulation of 240mV at (TJ = 25°C, 5mA ≤ IO ≤ 500mA)
- Maximum quiescent current change of 0.8mA at (14.5VDC ≤ VI ≤ 30VDC, IO = 200mA)
- Output noise voltage of 75µV at (TA = 25°C, 10Hz ≤ f ≤ 100KHz)
- Dropout voltage of 2VDC (TJ = 25°C)
- Peak output current is 700mA at (TJ = 25°C)
