ADM242 is a high-speed RS-232 line driver/receiver. It has highly efficient on-chip charge pump using small (0.1µF) external capacitors allows RS-232 bipolar levels to be developed. This line driver is fabricated on BiCMOS, an advanced mixed technology process that combines low power CMOS with high-speed bipolar circuitry. This allows for transmission rates upto 200kB/s. This line driver is widely used in application such as computers, peripherals, modems, printers, instruments etc. The ADM242 combines both shutdown (active-low SHDN) and enable (active-low EN) functions. The shutdown function reduces the supply current to 0.1mA. During shutdown, the transmitters are disabled but the receivers continue to operate normally. The enable function allows the receiver outputs to be disabled thereby facilitating sharing a common bus.

• Transition region slew rate is 8V/µ typ at (CL = 50pF to 1000pF, RL = 3Kohm to 7Kohm)
• Operating temperature range is −40°C to +85°C
• Package style is 18-lead standard small outline package [SOIC-W]
